Statement
I am a Spanish-born artist from Madrid, Spain. As a self-taught artist, I represent the second generation of artists in my family. My artwork primarily serves as a metaphor for the nostalgia I feel for the life and culture I left behind. I’m particularly interested in exploring the materiality of these metaphors.
This series of color drawings was created during my recent visit to Madrid. As I wandered through museums, galleries, and the familiar spaces of my family home and old friends’ houses, I was struck by the objects that I saw in paintings and the houses I visited.
Objects have the unique ability to absorb the emotions of their owners. My mother liked to surround herself with beautiful objects. These objects talked about her and were an extension of herself. I inherited this fascination for the poetic nature of objects. I believe that objects derive their value from their relationships with one another and the unique spaces they inhabit. Their worth is further enhanced by the affection and attention they receive. In this series, each sketch transcends its individual boundaries, engaging in a dialogue with the others. Together, they evoke my emotional response to objects, which may not necessarily be real but represent the essence of my memories and experiences.
