About Women Painters of Washington

Women Painters of Washington was founded in 1930 by six artists (Helen Bebb, Lily Norling Hardwick, Dorothy Dolph Jensen, Anna B. Stone, Elizabeth Campbell Warhanik, and Myra Albert Wiggins) who met at a portrait class held by the organization that eventually became known as â€œThe Seattle Art Museumâ€.

Their purpose was to empower professional women artists to create, exhibit and market their work while fostering art appreciation within their communities and beyond.

Since then, more than 1,000 women artists have been members of WPW. Some of our early members were WPA (Works Progress Administration) mural artists and others exhibited nationally and internationally. We have a very rich history.

Today, we currently have over 170 members. We meet monthly and have 2 juried shows yearly and other events at various times throughout the state. On occasion, we exhibit nationally and abroad.
