Karla Matzke

“Named Artist of the Year for Snohomish County in 1999, Karla Matzke is best known for her singular work in soft pastels using a stunning hard-edged realism. She translates her vision onto paper with extraordinary finesse, bringing a new definition to the medium of pastels.”   Ron Glowen

I co-owned History of the World Fine Art Gallery with artist Jack Gunter on Camano Island for eighteen years.  In 2008, I opened the doors to my new gallery, Matzke Fine Art Gallery and Sculpture Park on Camano Island, WA.  The 3000 square foot Gallery features prominent and emerging American and international artists.  The ten acre park features world class sculptures, the artists utilize bronze, steel, glass, stone and installation pieces, all site specific.

In 1983, I received my MFA from the University of New York at Albany.  I am known as a hard edged realist painter, primarily using soft pastel.  Also, I have several stainless steel sculptures in public art collections and plan to use my new space for more of these projects.

I expect that this magical acreage will nurture my career and provide a place for other artists to expand their horizons as well.
