Time
Time is a quiet mediation on how earth processes reveal different layers of time: eons of time used in building layers of rock, centuries of the action of water and wind to reveal them, and the moments or hours that we spend perceiving this revelation. The curve of the stack of stones contrasts with the straight plunge of the waterfall (dry in this season) driven by the force of gravity.

This watercolor is a rare piece from my private collection painted in 2000 while I was living in Massachusetts. It was inspired by annual trips into old growth forests of the Northwest. Showing her connection to nature on an intimate level, the woman, sitting on a nest, is symbolically giving birth to a bird. Her green hair with foxglove flowers is symbolic of digitalis, medicine for the heart. Her arm is like a tree, her hand connected to the earth rooting beneath her palm.
